I stopped giving into a lot of hype over makeup products about a year ago. Trying to be good and not spend money on items that I clearly didn’t need or know that I wouldn’t use ever was probably one of the hardest things a shopaholic can do to herself **insert really loud cry**
Spending small amounts of money (or large) every time really added up and just made no sense to me in the end. I ended up accumulating palettes (all with very similar shades mind you), lipsticks, 28407 different types of foundations that I never really got to use and would have to throw out after 12 months really made me cry!
Nowadays, I usually only buy what I need for myself which is not much as I stick to what I know and love for myself, or if I know I can use it in my makeup kit on clients.
The Nivea Past Shave Balm is a current worldwide phenomenon with makeup artists as well as beauty bloggers – well, not so current as everyone has been on the bandwagon for some time and I only just gave in because 1) I was running low on some primers 2) with so much more positive reviews than negative it was hard to say no 3) It was a bargain.
I trialed the post shave balm two days in a row a few weeks ago under my foundation (Makeup Forever HD) and I was surprised that it stayed on all day. Mind you, both the days started at 7am till 9pm so that’s just over 12 hours with no foundation budging, no creases, no oil, no dry patches. I was pleasantly surprised so tested this on a Bride who had quite an oily t-zone with dry patches around her mouth. Again, it left me with a flawless base to work on and the bride commented that she went to sleep with her makeup on and pretty much everything was still in place when she woke up the next day. She only had the smallest shine on her forehead from all the dancing she did!
Starting with the packaging, I love the fact that it is a very durable bottle – a little on the heavy side but extremely handy for my makeup kit because I know it won’t break or leak in my trolley. Of course, it would be great to have a pump to make it a bit easier, but really – this is a product catered for men. They don’t care about pumps. Right?
The formula itself is very lightweight, applies smoothly just like a moisturizer, dries quickly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tacky and has no overpowering scent.
I picked this up from Coles for $12.64 – not sure how often these go on sale but 100mls for under $15 is definitely hella cheap!
This was one hype that really took me by surprise. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable primer – especially those with oily skin as this seems to be really suited to oily skin types. Of course, with any makeup or beauty product, you should test a small patch on your hand 24 hours prior to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction or break out. I love the fact that this is now a product I can ‘share’ with my husband!
Have you tried the Nivea Post Shave Balm before and what are your thoughts?
PS: I’m sure you guys will see the changes to my blog over the next couple of months – I’m working on a new layout as well as incorporating my freelance work on here somehow too! As we grow, everything around us also grows with us!
